Fugro Seacore Unveils T120 Pile Top Drill for Offshore Wind Farms
Fugro Seacore, a leading expert in offshore marine construction, has designed and built a powerful new pile top drill, the T120, specifically for the offshore wind farm market. This drill, set to be completed in December 2013 and on site in early February 2014, is expected to significantly enhance drilling capabilities in challenging marine environments.
The T120 drill, the fifteenth in Fugro Seacore's fleet, will be capable of drilling holes from 500mm to 8 meters in diameter. It will have 120 tonnes of rotational torque, a significant increase from the current drill's 90 tonnes. Fugro Seacore expects drilling rates of up to 2.2 meters per hour with the T120 drill. With this addition, Fugro Seacore will have two drills capable of installing monopiles over 6 meters in diameter simultaneously, including up to 8 meters in diameter.
Fugro Seacore has also designed a new drill bit for up to 7 meters diameter monopiles, ready for deployment at the Westermost Rough offshore wind farm. Additionally, Fugro Seacore's fleet of jack-up barges and drills enables site investigation and construction work in challenging marine environments. For the Westermost Rough project, Fugro Seacore has designed a new conductor to save deck space and enable quick installation.
The T120 drill, along with Fugro Seacore's existing fleet and innovative designs, will further strengthen the company's position in the offshore wind farm market. With its enhanced capabilities, Fugro Seacore continues to push the boundaries of offshore construction, enabling more efficient and effective installation of offshore wind turbines and other marine structures.
