New Vibrant Design and Enhanced Features for Google Gemini Overlay on Android
Google has rolled out a redesign for the Gemini overlay on Android devices, introducing a more dynamic and engaging visual experience. The new design, now available in Google app version 16.30 for stable users, features a four-color glow scheme with red, yellow, green, and blue, with light blue as the dominant color [1].
The old animation of the Gemini overlay felt a bit stilted and blocky compared to the new design, which now comes in as a circle that comes in from just underneath the gesture bar, quickly expanding into a full-width pill that replaces the existing rounded rectangle design [5]. The layout of the overlay remains largely the same, with a 'plus' menu at the left, "Ask Gemini" hint, voice input microphone, Gemini Live on the other side, and a drag handle to open the full app [6].
One of the key enhancements in the new design is the floating, more compact Gemini Live interface. This interface allows multi-tasking with apps, showing contextual cards and information from apps such as Calendar, Maps, and Keep within the overlay.
