Globo Broadens Partnership with Grass Valley in Preparation for TV 3.0
Brazilian broadcaster Globo is taking a significant step forward in its technology transformation program by deploying Grass Valley's Agile Media Processing Platform (AMPP) as the backbone of its future production operations.
The strategic partnership between Globo and Grass Valley, formalised through a multi-year Enterprise Agreement, marks a new phase in Globo's long-term upgrade of production infrastructure. This shift to a software-defined, hybrid-cloud platform enables Globo to increase agility and scalability in its production supply chain, preparing the company for next-generation TV in Brazil.
The deployment supports Globo’s most demanding live production workflows, including the 24/7 time-shifted playout system for 100 consecutive days during the 2024 and 2025 seasons of Big Brother Brasil. The new AMPP-based control infrastructure will also support 4K workflows, meeting key DTV+ requirements.
The partnership with Grass Valley emphasises innovation and aligns with broader industry trends toward scalable, software-defined production environments. AMPP's cloud-ready architecture supports hybrid operations, facilitating Globo’s ability to handle complex live productions while enhancing operational efficiency and future growth potential.
In summary, Globo’s deployment of Grass Valley AMPP significantly impacts its future production operations by:
- Providing a flexible, hybrid-cloud platform that adapts to varying production needs
- Enhancing scalability to meet dynamic live production challenges
- Enabling rapid technological evolution aligned with the next generation of television
- Supporting a broad range of live workflows with greater agility and efficiency
The agreement between Globo and Grass Valley also lays the groundwork for a multiphase migration of Globo's primary production control rooms to a platform powered by the AMPP ecosystem. Since 2022, Globo and Grass Valley have worked closely to deploy AMPP across Tier 3 content production environments.
Tim Banks, CRO at Grass Valley, has expressed honour in strengthening the partnership with Globo in this strategic transformation. Mauricio Felix, Technology Executive at Globo, states that the shift to a software-defined platform enables agility and scalability in Globo's production supply chain.
Globo is also expanding its 2110 IP-based infrastructure through a new project, preparing for Brazil's next-generation digital broadcast standard, DTV+ (TV 3.0). This expansion project is a critical step in Globo's commitment to scalable, future-ready production.
The strategic partnership with Grass Valley will continue to evolve the AMPP ecosystem in close collaboration with Globo's technical and operational teams. The deployment of Grass Valley’s AMPP is part of a major initiative by Globo to modernize and future-proof its live production capabilities.
This transformation strengthens Globo’s strategic position and readiness for future broadcast and streaming demands in Brazil.
