Google Sheets LEN Function: Count Characters in Cells Easily
Google Sheets users can now easily count characters in cells with the LEN function. This tool, introduced by Google, is aiding in data management and validation.
The LEN function, available in Google Sheets, calculates the length of text in a cell. It counts all characters, including spaces, numbers, and special symbols. To use it, simply enter the formula =LEN(text), replacing 'text' with the cell reference or string you want to measure.
Prakhar Gupta, creator of the YouTube channel 'PrakharAtGFG', has demonstrated the LEN function's versatility. It's used for tasks such as data validation, cleaning up entries, and organizing information. For instance, to count occurrences of a specific character, combine LEN with the SUBSTITUTE function. First, remove the specific character using SUBSTITUTE, then subtract the new length from the original length using LEN.
The LEN function in Google Sheets is a powerful tool for managing and validating data. It's easy to use and can be applied to multiple cells simultaneously, saving time and effort.
