Google's Gemini Extensions Set to Bolster AI Control Over Your Android Device

Google's Gemini Extensions will gain functionality to interact with your device's Google applications, thereby obtaining data from your Gmail and incorporating it into your Calendar.

Google's Gemini Extensions Set to Bolster AI Control Over Your Android Device

Get ready to witness if Google's word holds true as their Gemini AI is set to expand beyond being a replacement for Google Assistant. In the forthcoming weeks, we'll see if it lives up to its promise of accessing multiple Google apps, potentially marking the debut of the first cross-phone AI integration.

In a blog, Google provided an approximate time frame for integrating Gemini with apps such as Google Keep, Google Calendar, Tasks, and Utilities. As of now, Gemini can cooperate with Gmail, Maps, and YouTube. The gist is users will be able to request the AI to pull data from one app to another without having to search for the information themselves.

extensions will allow the AI to access users more Google apps rather than just Gmail or YouTube. If it works as intended, it could be the first true cross-phone AI integration

For example, Google proposed users could pull a recipe from Gmail and then add the ingredients to a Keep note. Similarly, if users snap a photo of a receipt or ticket, they should be able to add it as an event or reminder in Calendar.

These features are expected to drop within the next few weeks, so you won’t have to wait too long to experiment with Google’s Geminification of your phone. The Gemini app has already assumed many of Assistant’s duties, and this week, Gemini Live became free for everyone on Android phones. This feature allows for a more conversational interaction with your phone than the basic Gemini, which functions more efficiently with brief and clear commands.

some of these features at its big

Google displayed some of these features at their grand August event, introducing the new Pixel 9 series alongside new watches and Pixel Buds. Apple has promised similar capabilities with its upcoming Apple Intelligence. However, both companies' full mobile AI integrations remain untested from our perspective. While the idea is intriguing, we're not exactly jumping into anticipation for a significant mobile ecosystem transformation, considering AI's inconsistency and finickiness.

I may not have as much use for conversational AI as I would for an assistant that can filter the important emails from my cluttered inbox. Google stated they were updating Gmail's "summary cards" and “Happening soon” features on Wednesday. Happening soon will now display the most relevant updates like deliveries or events based on your emails.

Summary cards now display more detailed information at the top of each email for purchases, events, bills, and travel registrations. Users can now edit bookings or receive directions to an airport or venue directly from Summary cards.

Google claimed Gemini was scheduled to support more than 40 languages beyond English, with French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, and Hindi being the first. Each phone's Gemini Live can handle conversations in up to two languages at a time, expanding its accessibility to more users.

While details about Utilities integration are scarce, Gemini's ability to interact with device-level features like timers, alarms, and media controls hints at the potential for automation and voice control through Gemini Live.

  1. The future of tech and artificial-intelligence is promising with Google's Gemini AI, as it aims to integrate with multiple Google apps, potentially marking the beginning of cross-phone AI technology.
  2. In the upcoming weeks, we should expect the integration of Gemini with additional apps like Google Keep, Calendar, Tasks, and Utilities, expanding beyond its current compatibility with Gmail, Maps, and YouTube.
  3. With Gemini's planned integrations, users can expect to request data transfer between apps, such as pulling a recipe from Gmail and adding it to a Keep note.
  4. The potential for chatbot automation and voice control through Gemini Live's device-level feature integrations, such as timers, alarms, and media controls, hints at an exciting development in the realm of tech and AI.
