Greifswald Launches Digital Photo Service at City Hall
Greifswald city administration has introduced a new digital photo service. Residents can now have their photos taken directly at the registration office for a fee of 6 euros. This service is available for all, including babies and toddlers, and uses equipment provided by the Federal Printing Office.
The new system, set up and tested by the registration office, allows employees to take photos at their workstations. The photos are then encrypted and uploaded to a secure cloud, accessible via a QR code. This service is particularly useful as digital photos are now mandatory for new personal documents in Greifswald, effective since May 2025. However, they are currently only accepted for identity cards and passports, not for driver's licenses or other documents. The city administration has not yet provided information about the person or office responsible for the setup of the Bundesdruckerei equipment.
Greifswald residents can now conveniently have their digital photos taken at the city administration for 6 euros. The photos are securely stored and can be used for identity cards and passports. While this service is a step towards digitalization, its full potential for other documents remains to be seen.
