Handheld gaming device AYANEO's Pocket DS boasts impressive emulation capabilities, spanning from NES to Nintendo Switch, and all points in between.
The AYANEO Pocket DS, a new handheld gaming device, is set to make waves in the gaming industry. With its dual-screen design and powerful hardware, it's poised to become a favourite among fans of Nintendo DS/3DS emulation and retro gaming.
The Pocket DS boasts a distinctive advantage for DS and 3DS emulation, thanks to its clamshell form factor and two screens. One is a 7-inch OLED with a variable refresh rate up to 165Hz, while the other is a 5-inch LCD. Both screens have a 1080p resolution, ensuring crisp and vivid visuals.
The device will be the first to utilize the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2, a high-performance chipset. While the Pocket S2 and Pocket S2 Pro were the first to use the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3, the Pocket DS will not.
The Pocket DS is currently in mass production and is expected to be showcased at ChinaJoy 2025 in Shanghai from August 1 to August 4. The exact pricing will be revealed soon, but estimates suggest it will range from $275 to $415. A crowdfunding campaign launch is imminent, and early backers who pay a $1 reservation fee will receive a $20 discount. This suggests the device should become available for purchase shortly after August 2025.
AYANEO has implemented a "three-finger swipe" gesture in the software to allow users to easily swap what's shown between the top and bottom screens of the Pocket DS. The lower 5-inch screen, with its 4:3 aspect ratio, is particularly suitable for retro gaming.
The Pocket DS also features an ergonomic design and an 8,000mAh battery, ensuring long gaming sessions without the need for frequent recharges.
