Heavy Rain Leaves Southern Bavaria Flooded; Wasserwacht Bayern Steps In

Heavy rain in southern Bavaria has led to severe flooding, with the Wasserwacht Bayern (Bavarian Water Rescue Service) actively involved since May 30. Over 3,000 helpers have been working tirelessly to pump away millions of liters of water and secure properties with sandbags.

The 'Orinoco' storm has caused significant damage, with flood levels reaching alert level 4 in several districts. The Wasserwacht Bayern has been using advanced technology, such as rotary piston pumps and drones, to assess the situation and make informed decisions. They have also deployed Mobile Flood Level Teams to monitor waterways and dikes, with an automatic water level monitoring system transmitting data every five minutes.

The THW forces have been securing dams and property with tens of thousands of sandbags and using high-performance pumps to transport vast amounts of water. The organization has been providing catering, conducting expert consultations, and analyzing online data to support the ongoing efforts. Despite the slow water recession, the situation in many flood areas is improving, and the THW forces continue their work for a few more days.

The Wasserwacht Bayern's involvement in the aftermath of the 'Orinoco' storm has been crucial in limiting the impact of the floods. With over 100 local associations involved, they have been monitoring water levels, evacuating people, and advising command staff. Their use of technology and specialized equipment has been instrumental in combating the flood disaster in southern Bavaria.
