Crypto Scammers on the Hunt: Tips for Coinbase Users and Shiba Inu (SHIB) Investors

Be vigilant! Scammers are targeting crypto investors with sophisticated tactics, and it's essential to be aware of the latest threats, especially as they pertain to Coinbase users and Shiba Inu (SHIB) investors.

" phishy " Emails Lurking Around

Recently, Shibarium's marketing strategist, LUCIE, alerted the community to fake emails, disguised as being from Coinbase's Compliance Team. These deceptive messages demand users to verify account information, threatening account restrictions if not complied with. LUCIE emphasizes these emails are phishing attempts aimed at harvesting your personal information.

To avoid falling victim, avoid clicking on any links within these emails or sharing sensitive details. Instead, verify the authenticity of these communications through Coinbase's official website only.

Past Hack Attacks on Coinbase

Unfortunately, Coinbase has had aRUN-IN with hackers in the past. In 2024, a humungous hack attack infiltrated the data of 69,000 customers. The breach, announced in May 2025, exposed full names, email addresses, phone numbers, and partially masked Social Security numbers, along with bank account details.

The attack traced back to an employee at a third-party service provider, TaskUs, based in India. The employee was caught selling customer data to scammers, resulting in a whopping $400 million loss.

Just a few weeks prior to this warning, Shibarium's marketing strategist, LUCIE, had issued a similar caution, sharing her own agonizing experience of having her wallet emptied through a similar method. The scammer, whose primary language was English, seemed pleasant and understanding, enticing easier targets into their trap.

Stay Safe with these Precautions:

  • Avoid clicking on links or providing sensitive information in suspicious emails.
  • Regulate your security measures and use strong passwords, as well as two-factor authentication.
  • Remain skeptical of investment opportunities promising unbelievable returns.

  2. In light of previous hack incidents at Coinbase, such as the 2024 breach that exposed sensitive user information, it's imperative for investors to prioritize cybersecurity measures, including verifying the authenticity of emails, implementing strong passwords and two-factor authentication, and remaining cautious of suspicious investment opportunities.
