Heidelberg commences vehicle scanning operation this week, aimed at improving accuracy in identifying parking violations

The Scan-Auto system, developed by DCX Innovations GmbH, is transforming the way we manage parking enforcement. This innovative technology is designed to enhance efficiency and accuracy, similar to those found in autonomous vehicles.

The Scan-Auto system can perform approximately 1,000 checks per hour, making it a powerful tool in maintaining order in crowded parking areas. Its capabilities extend beyond simple parking detection; it can identify expired parking tickets, whether manually inputted or through an app.

One of the key features of Scan-Auto is its ability to differentiate between parked and briefly stopped vehicles. To achieve this, the system drives the same route twice within a span of 7 minutes. This allows it to accurately identify vehicles that have remained parked in no-parking zones.

The Scan-Auto system operates using a combination of a 3D laser system and a camera, enabling it to capture license plates with remarkable accuracy. This ensures that parking violations can be traced effectively.

It's important to note that the Scan-Auto system does not require human intervention for operation. This means it can work continuously, reducing the need for human resources and minimising potential errors.

Using the Scan-Auto system is straightforward. First, connect the scanner to power and load the film with the full spool on the right side. Then, start the scanner and access the rewind function without starting it immediately. Put on gloves and moisten a microfiber cloth lightly with cleaning fluid, then wrap the film with the cloth applying gentle pressure. Start the rewind function so the film passes through the moist cloth to clean it, replacing or re-moistening the cloth area as needed depending on dirtiness. This ensures the film is cleaned during scanning without moving too fast for proper cleaning and scanning.

In conclusion, the Scan-Auto system is a game-changer in the realm of parking enforcement, offering a more efficient, accurate, and automated solution. By accurately capturing the position and content of license plates, it can help cities and towns maintain order and ensure fair parking practices for all.
