Herford Police Crack Down on E-Scooter Violations After Bünde Accident
Herford police conducted a district-wide inspection of electric micro-vehicles on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. The operation, which took place in Herford and Bünde, uncovered numerous violations among the 100 vehicles checked. This comes following an e-scooter accident in Bünde on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, which injured three people.
Out of the 100 vehicles inspected, 60 violations were found. These included using unauthorized traffic areas, riding double, using bike lanes against traffic, using smartphones during operation, and children under 14 using e-scooters. Additionally, offenses under the compulsory insurance law were also detected.
The inspections took place on school routes and in pedestrian zones, highlighting the police's commitment to safety in these areas. Unexpected targeted inspections will continue in the future, as part of a mix of preventive and repressive measures aimed at increasing traffic safety and preventing accidents involving electric micro-vehicles.
