Honeywell acquires Li-ion Tamer® lithium-ion battery monitoring equipment from Nexceris
Nexceris Sells Li-ion Tamer® to Honeywell for Battery Safety Advancements
In a significant development, Nexceris, a leading innovator in advanced materials and component-level products, announced the sale of its Li-ion Tamer® lithium-ion battery monitoring solution to Honeywell in July 2025.
The Li-ion Tamer® technology is an industry-leading off-gas detection and early warning system designed to prevent thermal runaway events in lithium-ion batteries, a major fire safety risk, especially in electric vehicles and other large-scale battery applications.
This technology, originally conceived as a safety device for nuclear submarines, has evolved through collaborative development involving the U.S. Navy, DNV-GL, Beckett Energy Systems, and funding from the U.S. Department of Energy. It expanded to serve marine, transportation, grid storage, residential energy, and laboratory safety markets, and more recently, Nexceris partnered with the Federal Aviation Administration to study battery safety in aviation.
Honeywell's acquisition of Li-ion Tamer® is a strategic move to address the growing global demand for battery safety, particularly in the electric vehicle sector. Honeywell estimates strong market demand and views Li-ion Tamer® as a transformative solution that can detect all major types of lithium-ion battery failures, often before catastrophic events occur, thereby increasing consumer safety and confidence.
Randall Stacy, Chief Commercial Officer and Managing Partner at Nexceris, commented on the sale, stating that it validates Nexceris' mission of commercialization through collaboration. The sale allows Li-ion Tamer® to be part of Honeywell's leading fire life safety portfolio within its Building Automation business.
Despite the sale, Nexceris continues to sell Li-ion Tamer® lithium-ion battery monitoring products, now under Honeywell's ownership. Nexceris' focus remains on related breakthrough technologies across numerous energy markets through advanced materials and component-level products. The company plans to deploy products across catalyst, electric vehicles (EV), and electrochemical applications through its commercial brands, fuelcellmaterials and HeatPath Solutions.
Kyle Shen, President and CEO of Nexceris, expressed pride in what Li-ion Tamer® has become, noting that more than 400 million hours of sensing have been achieved with the technology. Li-ion Tamer® was developed by Nexceris following a catastrophic lithium-ion battery fire at a U.S. Navy shipyard.
Nexceris' collaborative model combines client technology with the company's scientific and engineering expertise to accelerate commercialization and deliver measurable results. The sale of Li-ion Tamer® to Honeywell represents a significant step in integrating cutting-edge battery safety monitoring into broader industrial and automotive applications, potentially reshaping how battery fire risks are managed across multiple industries.
GreenFront Energy Partners served as the exclusive financial advisor to Nexceris for this transaction. The transaction does not include any other products or assets of Nexceris besides Li-ion Tamer®, and it does not affect Nexceris' stock ticker symbol, which remains NASDAQ: HON.
In this strategic acquisition, Honeywell, a prominent player in both business and technology sectors, acquires Nexceris' Li-ion Tamer®, a leading battery monitoring solution for lithium-ion safety advancements. With this acquisition, Honeywell aims to address growing global demands for safety in electric vehicles, leveraging Li-ion Tamer®'s transformative technology to detect various lithium-ion battery failures, thereby enhancing consumer safety and confidence across various businesses.
