Hope for Life on Our Planet: Nobel Laureates Launch Book at UNGA
The Explorers Club recently hosted a global book launch event for 'Hope for Life on Our Planet' during the 80th UN General Assembly and 16th annual Climate Week. The event was opened by Club President Emeritus Ted Janulis and Trustee Leonard Levie, Chairman of AIAC. The book, a collection of essays by several Nobel Peace Prize laureates, focuses on the environment, climate, and sustainability.
Dame Jane Goodall and Verizon Chairman and CEO Hans Vestberg delivered co-author tributes, emphasizing the importance of the book and its message of hope. Hans Vestberg highlighted the role of technology in empowering people and connecting them globally. The event featured a distinguished panel discussion moderated by Lyndsay Howard of Bloomberg News, including Vidar Helgesen, Jonathan Granoff, and Dr. Robert Thurman. Dame Jane Goodall stated that the book provides hope during dark times, a sentiment echoed by Narges Mohammadi, who spoke via live video link from Tehran. The book includes essays from notable Nobel Peace Prize laureates such as Al Gore, Muhammad Yunus, and Wangari Maathai. Dr. Bjelland, the book's editor and co-author, shared its genesis and mission, involving over 60 contributing authors across various sectors.
The event closed with a speech on leadership and human values by actor and UN Messenger of Peace Michael Douglas. 'Hope for Life on Our Planet' is a testament to the power of unity and hope in the face of global challenges, with its contributors offering insights and inspiration for a sustainable future.
