Hyundai Motor Company in Germany experiences a 55% increase in electric vehicle sales during the first half of 2025.

In the first half of 2025, Hyundai's electric vehicle (EV) registrations in Germany showed a significant increase compared to the same period last year, with a total of 12,981 units registered. This growth aligns with the broader strong expansion of the German EV market, which saw electric vehicle registrations (BEVs, PHEVs, FCEVs) increase by around 44-55% year-on-year.

The compact electric car model Inster is the top-selling Hyundai EV for the first half of 2025, with 5,173 registrations. The Inster was also among the top 10 of all EV models in May and June of 2025, indicating strong consumer interest. The Ioniq 5 and Ioniq Electric followed closely behind, achieving 3,630 and 3,265 registrations respectively.

Despite Hyundai's impressive growth, the company's EV models are not currently among the best-selling EVs or overall best sellers in Germany or Europe in 2025's first half. The European EV market is led by Tesla and Volkswagen, with newer Kia models entering the top sellers in Europe.

Ulrich Mechau, President & CEO of Hyundai Motor Germany, states that the results for the first half of the year confirm the success of Hyundai's electric strategy. He implies that these electric models are contributing to Hyundai's growth in the German market.

Hyundai's total registrations in Germany for the first half of 2025 have increased compared to the same period last year, making the company the third-largest importer in Germany for the first half of 2025. The share of electric vehicles in Hyundai's total registrations in Germany for the first half of 2025 is higher than the market average of 18 percent, at 28 percent.

In summary, Hyundai contributes to the EV growth in Germany, benefiting from the market’s 44-55% growth rate year-to-date in 2025. However, the company's EV models are not currently among the best-selling EVs or overall best sellers in Germany or Europe in 2025’s first half. Despite this, Hyundai's growth in Germany’s EV market is positive but modest relative to stronger incumbents like Tesla and Volkswagen.

Hyundai offers a wide range of attractive, everyday-ready electric models, including the Inster, Ioniq 5, and Ioniq Electric, which continue to gain popularity in the German market. As the EV market in Germany and Europe continues to grow, it is likely that Hyundai will continue to strengthen its position and potentially break into the top tier of best-selling EVs.
