Bavaria Launches Initiative to Eradicate Mobile Network Dead Zones

In an effort to eliminate persistent mobile network dead zones across Bavaria, the state government has announced a nationwide measurement week. The move comes as a response to the inconvenience experienced by both individuals and businesses due to poor connectivity.

"The subpar quality of mobile network coverage is undeniably frustrating for private users, but it poses a significant challenge for businesses as well," commented Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger from the Free Voters party. He further emphasized the importance of reliable mobile connectivity as a critical factor in location decisions.

To facilitate the identification of network coverage issues, participation from citizens is essential. The initiative, kick-starting today, will see the first nationwide mobile network measurement week. Citizens are encouraged to report dead zones or carry out broadband measurements using the official app of the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA).

Addressing the issue, Minister Aiwanger stated, "Regrettably, there remain dead zones that necessitate prompt remediation." According to his ministry, the implementation of new antenna masts has been underway, as part of a €130 million funding program. Municipalities are supported by the ministry in constructing antenna masts, which can later be leased to network operators.

For those who wish to contribute to the mobile network measurement week in Bavaria and help improve network coverage, the following guidelines can be followed:

  1. Keep abreast of official communication from the federal, state, and local governments in Bavaria, covering details on participation and potential tools or apps for data collection.
  2. Utilize measurement tools such as specialized apps recommended by organizers during the measurement week.
  3. Report detected dead zones or areas with poor coverage through designated channels, which could include online forms, mobile apps, or other provided platforms.
  4. Engage with local communities and online forums to ensure widespread awareness of the initiative and facilitate comprehensive data collection.
  5. Provide constructive feedback on the process and suggestions for enhancing network coverage in Bavaria through surveys or feedback forms provided by the organizers.

For more comprehensive instructions, consult the official website of the Bavarian state government or local news outlets for updates on the measurement week and how to participate effectively.

  1. To ensure the success of the mobile network measurement week, the community policy encourages citizens to download and use the official app of the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) to carry out broadband measurements and report dead zones or areas with poor coverage.
  2. As the initiative progresses, employment policy will play a crucial role in leveraging technology, as new antenna masts will be constructed across Bavaria with the support of municipalities and eventual leasing to network operators, ultimately enhancing mobile network coverage for both private and business users.
