Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit France from February 10 to 12, with a packed schedule that includes a series of high-profile events.

On February 11, the AI Action Summit will take place in Paris. PM Modi will attend the summit as a co-chair, focusing on an ethical, sustainable, and inclusive approach to Artificial Intelligence. Following the summit, he will travel to Marseille, where he will be hosted to a dinner by French President Emmanuel Macron.

The next day, PM Modi and President Macron will inaugurate the new Indian consulate in Marseille. After this, they are expected to visit the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) located in nearby Cadarache.

Diplomatic sources anticipate announcements in the spheres of defense, small modular reactors, aircraft maintenance, repair & overhaul facilities in India, and a bilateral AI roadmap. One such defense announcement could see India acquiring 26 Rafale-Marine fighter aircraft from France for the Indian Navy. The leaders may also discuss the proposed construction of three additional submarines under the P75 program.

Following the AI summit and the CEOs forum, PM Modi will attend a dinner hosted by President Macron. On February 12, the leaders will visit a war cemetery to pay homage to Indian soldiers who died fighting for France during the First World War.

The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) is expected to be high on the agenda during the visit. France is considering India as a key ally in the Indo-Pacific region, and the two nations are expected to strengthen their economic ties through this corridor.

The summit will address five primary themes: public interest in AI, the future of work, innovation and culture, trust in AI, and global governance of AI. The visit includes participation in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Summit in Paris as a co-chair, underscoring India's commitment to the responsible use of AI technology.

Diplomatic sources describe the India-France relationship as having a "big head" in defense and security partnership, but needing to "put flesh on the small body" through economic cooperation. This visit marks a significant step towards achieving that goal.
