Installs 22 electric vehicle charging stations in Redcar and Cleveland
In an effort to support the transition to electric vehicles (EVs), Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is deploying EV charge points across the region. This initiative is part of the local council's efforts to develop the borough's EV infrastructure, funded through the On-Street Residential ChargePoint Scheme (ORCS).
The first tranche of 22 chargers will be installed in the spring/summer of 2025, with more to follow. These charge points will be located in various council-owned car parks, including community and leisure centres, and public parking areas. This means that residents and visitors will have easy access to charging facilities in these areas.
The reliability and accessibility of the EV charge network is a priority to ensure no one is left behind in the transition to electric vehicles. To this end, the charge points will be installed in residential areas, with a focus on those less likely to have attracted private industry funding. This will help to make EV ownership more accessible to a wider range of people.
The installation of EV charge points is a step towards improving the borough's EV infrastructure, which could encourage more people to switch to electric vehicles. Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is making significant progress in supporting local people to make greener travel choices.
Meanwhile, the UK's transportation sector will gather at the fourth annual CiTTi Awards on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. This unmissable event will celebrate achievements and innovations in EV charging infrastructure. More information about the CiTTi Awards can be found at www.cittiawards.co.uk.
Believ, the charge point operator, brings expertise to this project, having experience in understanding what technology is best suited to what location for EV charge points. The partnership between Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and Believ provides access to all charging speeds, ensuring that EV drivers have a convenient and efficient charging experience.
The installation of these EV charge points in Redcar and Cleveland is a positive step towards a greener and more sustainable future for the region.
