Instagram Simplifies Content Sharing with Native Repost Feature

Instagram has introduced a new feature that allows users to easily repost public Reels and feed posts directly within the app. This update, rolled out in 2025, streamlines the process of sharing popular content while preserving credit for the original creators.

How to Repost on Instagram

To make use of this native repost feature, follow these straightforward steps:

  1. Update Your Instagram App Ensure your Instagram app is updated to the latest version to access the built-in repost feature.
  2. Find the Reel or Feed Post to Repost Locate any public Reel or feed post you want to share in your Instagram feed or on the creator's profile.
  3. Tap the Repost Icon Just below the Reel or post (near the comment and share buttons), tap the Repost icon (two circular arrows forming a square).
  4. Add a Message (Optional) A pop-up will appear allowing you to add a comment or note. Type your message if you want; this text will appear near the reposted content for your followers.
  5. Confirm Repost Tap Repost to share the content. The reposted Reel or post will appear in your followers' feed and be saved in a new Reposts tab on your profile, where both you and others can view all your reposts.
  6. View Your Reposts Go to your Instagram profile and tap the new Reposts tab (alongside your posts, Reels, etc.) to see all the content you have reshared via the native repost feature.
  7. Undo a Repost (if needed) If you want to remove a repost, hold down the reposted thumbnail in the Reposts tab and tap Delete Repost.

Additional Features

Instagram’s Remix feature allows you to creatively respond or add commentary to a Reel before reposting. Additionally, you can reshare Reels you are tagged in by opening your notifications or DMs, finding that Reel, and tapping Add to your story (automatic permission).

Before this native repost feature, reposting was either done manually (taking screenshots and re-uploading) or via third-party apps. However, these methods are no longer necessary for public content reposting.

This native repost feature, by automatically crediting the original creator, helps maintain the integrity of the content while making it easier for users to share content effortlessly without external tools.

With the new native repost feature on Instagram, users can now easily share popular content from social media platforms, such as Reels and feed posts, within the app itself. This simplifies the process of entertainment distribution and promotion on social-media networks, all while preserving the credit for the original creators through technology.

Users can enjoy the convenience of re-sharing content without needing to rely on external tools for this purpose, as automations within the app credit the original creators, making it a win-win situation for both the sharer and the creator. This integration of technology into social media is an exciting step that revolutionizes the way we enjoy and spread entertainment online.
