Internet speed on mobile devices in Kamchatka has been significantly enhanced, now offering twice the previous speed.

In a significant move, MTS has carried out a large-scale network refarming in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Elizovo, expanding the region's network coverage and capacity. This modernization has brought about a notable improvement in the mobile internet speed, with an average increase of 20% across the region.

The benefits of this network upgrade are far-reaching, particularly in remote settlements such as Ust-Khairuzovo, Lazarev, Tigil, Severnye Koriaki, Maiskoye, Taezhny, and several others. Residents in these areas can now access modern digital services such as quick downloads, video services, banking applications, and music applications.

One of the most affected areas is the Elizovsky district, popular for its scenic landscapes, thermal sources, and wild nature. This district attracts both ecological and cultural tourists, as well as local residents during the summer. Dacha owners in this district, including those in the suburban SNTs like Dubrava-1, Industrialist, Romantic, Mutnovsky, Druzhba, Berezka, now have access to high-speed mobile internet from MTS.

The network modernization has also made high-speed mobile internet available to the residents of the mentioned remote settlements. In fact, MTS was the first operator to provide mobile connectivity to the residents of Severnye Koriaki settlements in the Elizovsky district, Taezhny in the Milkivsky district, and Maiskoye in the Ust-Kamchatsky district.

The modernization of the MTS network in Kamchatka Krai is expected to have several positive impacts. For instance, it would lead to higher mobile internet speeds in previously underserved areas, including dacha zones, thereby enhancing internet access for residents and seasonal visitors. This improved connectivity would support remote work, online education, and leisure activities that require stable internet.

In terms of tourism, faster and more reliable mobile internet would allow tourists to access travel information, navigation, accommodation booking, and digital guides in real time, enhancing their experience and satisfaction. Local tourism operators could leverage improved digital infrastructure for marketing, online reservations, and providing digital services, such as virtual tours and e-tickets. The reliable internet may also attract digital nomads and remote workers, increasing the appeal of Kamchatka’s dacha areas as destinations for longer stays.

Moreover, better connectivity supports digital government services (e.g., e-visas, online permits), banking, telemedicine, and e-commerce, making life easier for residents and visitors. Local businesses, including tourism operators and small shops, can expand their digital presence, offer online payment options, and reach a wider audience.

The increased internet speeds foster the growth of digital startups and innovation, particularly in sectors reliant on connectivity, such as remote education, entertainment, and logistics. While direct information on MTS’s specific plans in Kamchatka Krai is not available, the general trend of network modernization in Russia is set to benefit dacha areas, tourism, and digital services by improving internet speeds and reliability.
