Checked Christmas presents, received the trendiest e-bike – Amflow PL Carbon, equipped with the DJI Avinox motor for long-term testing. Apparently, I've been on the nice list... Prior to hitting the road with the Amflow and driving it to Italy for a three-week ride during Christmas, I wanted to weigh it with the stock 800Wh battery in standard trim. The result? A hefty 21.52kg for size L.

Blue Collar Tech Reviews: Tackling the Amflow PL Carbon with Grit

Unwrapping the Hot New StuffSanta's elves might've been busy this year, but they dropped a real gem in my lap - the state-of-the-art Amflow PL Carbon e-bike. A holiday icon, I tell you – the DJI Avinox motor and all. Now, I couldn't waste a minute before diving into the tech and giving you a lowdown on this bad boy. First things first, we weighed it. Ready? Here it goes: 21.52kg for size L with the stock 800Wh battery. Quite a load, but I'm sure it's well worth it. Now, does the Amflow stick to its numbers when it comes to geometry and travel? Let's see.

Measuring UpNo faith in manufacturers' claims? Good, 'cause I don't either. I rolled up my sleeves and got cracking on measuring the gears and travel of this sleek machine myself. Compared to the figures published by Amflow, some discrepancies popped up: the head and seat angles were slightly slacker, and the BB height was lower, but it's pretty standard for production bikes. No biggie, though – less slack than claimed is a win in my book. Now let's talk travel. Jammin' on that bicycle pump to top the shock off gave me 145mm of travel – a hair's breadth shy of the claimed 150mm. But squeezing that sucker dry managed to wring out an extra 3mm, rounding up to 148mm – dang close to what's advertised.

** Georgometrification 101**Want to know the Precision Meeting geometry of the Amflow PL Carbon? Here's what you're looking at with size L:

  • Head angle: 64.1°
  • Seat angle: 69.4°
  • Effective SA: 76.2°
  • BB height: 341mm
  • Chainstay: 445mm
  • Front centre: 812mm
  • Wheelbase: 1,257mm
  • Down tube: 742mm
  • Seat tube: 455mm
  • Top tube: 621mm
  • Reach: 470mm
  • Stack: 639mm

The Truth TravelerYou might wonder why I took the vertical travel measurements instead of the curved or rearward axle path. Simple. It's the only number that truly matters for absorbin' bumps. Think of it like this: if you've got a bike with 150mm frame travel and a 100% rearward axle path, that's zero travel, son. Why? Cuz the bike can't flex a muscle when it's locked up tight. Shocking, I know.

Putting It to the TestMade it through the dissection and now it's time to see how the Amflow performs in the wild. First order of business? Fitting those badass tyres to get that weight up and ensure the handling can live up to the bike's other impressive stats. Will keep you posted on all that – stay tuned for a follow-up review.

Warranty and DistributionTalked to the dude from Amflow in Blighty, and here's the warranty deal: a two-year warranty on all electronics. Their service center's in the Netherlands, and they've got spare parts stashed in a U-K warehouse for any dealers who need 'em. Now on to the big question: will the Amflow grace the soil of the United States? There's a plan to start sellin' these bikes in 'Murica sometime in 2025. So if you're Stateside, pat your patience on the back and keep dreamin'.
