Faraday Future and Geely Holding Group Form Strategic Partnership

Faraday Future, a global shared intelligent mobility ecosystem company based in California, USA, has announced substantial progress in its cooperation with Geely Holding Group. The two companies have signed a formal agreement focusing on production and technical cooperation.

Geely, one of Faraday Future’s minority investors, will assist Faraday by providing technology and engineering support. They will also explore the use of production services through a Geely-Foxconn joint venture. Faraday Future plans to establish a new base in China, with further details on the partnership expected to be announced later.

This partnership is part of Geely's broader strategy to build a comprehensive new mobility ecosystem. Faraday Future’s electric vehicle technology complements Geely’s portfolio.

Technical Advancements

Recently, Faraday Future unveiled advanced automotive AI systems and technology architectures under their Faraday X brand. These include the FF EAI system, an embodied AI agent framework enabling vehicles with expressive AI-driven capabilities, and the FF AI 2.0 system launched via over-the-air updates on the FF 91. These technological advancements demonstrate Faraday’s focus on integrating AI deeply into their vehicles. While the integration with Geely's technology is expected to accelerate, no specific joint technical projects with Geely have been detailed publicly.

Production Plans

Faraday Future's luxury electric vehicle, the FF 91, is set to be the first flagship model in China, with stores located in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. The company plans to start delivery within 12 months after the company's listing, with the production led by Matt Tall, the vice president of production and manufacturing. The FF 91 is positioned as the most high-end model with a starting price of USD 100,000.

The FF China team has provided significant help to the progress of the FF 91 project. In addition, Faraday Future has registered and established a new company in Hengqin New District, which will be implemented as a joint venture in the future. The company has also secured funding for the production of the FF 91 through a planned SPAC merger, expected to raise approximately $1 billion. However, as of now, no vehicles have been produced yet.

Expansion in China

Faraday Future's Fafa Automobile is operating in a collaborative office in Zhuhai, with plans to operate in multiple cities in China. FF China will select sites for FF/FF Par ecological flagship stores in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. Additionally, FF America is selecting locations for flagship stores in Los Angeles and New York.

The partnership with Geely is just one part of Faraday Future's expansion in China. The FF China executive team is globally integrated, with most members having backgrounds in luxury car companies and Internet and technology companies. Faraday Future has created an ecological o2o direct sales model that integrates online and offline, aiming to subvert high-end luxury car brands such as Maybach, Ferrari, and Bentley, according to Jia Yueting.

The company has also established Fafa Automobile (Zhuhai) Co., Ltd., wholly owned by FF Hong Kong Holding Limited, in December 2020. This company, based in the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone, has a registered capital of USD 250 million. In the latest round of FF financing, Zhuhai's state-owned assets participated in an investment of 2 billion yuan.

In summary, Faraday Future and Geely Holding Group have a formal cooperation agreement. Geely will provide manufacturing services and technology support, and Faraday Future plans to establish a new base in China. The companies are advancing AI-powered electric vehicle technology, with integration expected but specific joint developments not yet announced. The production of the FF 91 is planned, with funding from the SPAC deal and factory completion underway. However, no vehicles have been produced yet. This partnership is at an early to mid stage concerning active joint manufacturing or technology development, with more announcements anticipated in the near future.
