Investment firm Smart Infrastructure Ventures initiates €30M SIVentures II Capital Pool
Smart Infrastructure Ventures (SIVentures) has announced the launch of its second fund, SIVenturesII, with €30 million in capital. The venture capital firm, which specialises in early-stage startups developing innovative technologies in AI, IT infrastructure, and energy, is now accepting investments.
The founding team of SIVentures comprises Bjoern Bauermeister, formerly a trader at BNP Paribas, and Dirk Frohnert, formerly a fund manager at JPMorgan. The duo is joined by Falk Trietsch, an investment manager at SIVentures.
The new fund aims to invest in approximately 30 startup teams, primarily in the DACH region. SIVentures works closely with the SpinLab group, which manages several renowned accelerator programs in Germany and has an extensive partner network.
The fund targets B2B startups in the pre-seed and seed stages. Initial investments will be up to €500,000 per company. So far, SIVentures has made four investments in the areas of AI, software development, and enterprise software.
While no recent publicised investments or successes of SIVentures in AI, IT infrastructure, or energy sectors in the DACH region are found in the provided sources, the company has already made successful investments such as the cybersecurity company Enginsight from Jena and the customs startup traide AI from Berlin from its first fund generation.
SIVentures' management plans to double the volume compared to the first fund. The team has more than 20 years' experience in investment and entrepreneurship. The fund's management sees itself as a proactive sparring partner for startups.
More than 75% of the target value of €30 million has already been achieved following the successful closing of the first fund in 2024. Additional potential investments are currently undergoing due diligence.
Notably, SIVentures has recorded two successful exits, including the sale of the Leipzig-based digital health startup mementor to the US medical technology group ResMed.
As SIVenturesII begins its investment journey, it is poised to support innovative startups in the DACH region, contributing to the growth and success of the tech ecosystem in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
- Dirk Frohnert, a former fund manager at JPMorgan, who is part of the SIVentures team, expresses their ambition to invest in startups focusing on artificial-intelligence, technology, and finance, as they embark on the journey of SIVenturesII.
- As SIVenturesII seeks to double the volume compared to its first fund, it intends to channel its capital primarily into B2B startups in the pre-seed and seed stages, notably investigating opportunities within finance and technology sectors of the DACH region.
