Klüt's Flood Protection Measures Triumph in Heavy Rainfall Test

Klüt, Detmold, has successfully weathered a heavy rainfall event, significantly above the once-in-a-century level, thanks to its robust flood protection measures. The town's defences held strong, preventing further damage despite the intense downpour.

The city's flood protection system, comprising ditch dam systems, water guidance measures, and emergency waterways, worked in harmony to hold back and direct rainwater. This collaborative effort averted potential floods and had a positive impact on downstream areas like Jerxen-Orbke.

Mayor Frank Hilker has attributed the successful flood protection to climate change measures implemented in Klüt. The city's commitment to expanding protective measures is evident in its plans to construct a further ditch dam system with a retention basin on the Poststraße towards Ernst-Hilker-Ring/Jowat in 2026, and to upgrade the cycle path towards 'Son Vida'. The next project in line is the emergency overflow canal on the Düner Straße.

Klüt's flood protection measures have passed their first real stress test with flying colours. The city's proactive approach to climate change, as demonstrated by Mayor Frank Hilker, has proven effective in safeguarding the town and its downstream areas from heavy rainfall events.
