Krasnodar Residents Protest Church Construction in Green Zone
Residents of Krasnodar have launched a campaign against the construction of a church in the Jubilee Microdistrict, with flash mobs, solo pickets, and petitions. The dispute centers around the loss of a green zone, with the public voicing their concerns through various means.
The controversy began when sketches for the church, revealing a total area of 4,382 square meters, were leaked online. Residents feared the construction would lead to the loss of the green zone on the Рождественская embankment in YMR. They opposed the plan, with a girl holding a solo picket on October 1, carrying a sign that read 'No construction in the green zone of YMR'.
Public consultations were organized by the Krasnodar City Administration on October 13, 2025, to discuss the construction. However, residents have already begun expressing their dissent through solo pickets and collecting thousands of signatures against the project. They have also recorded appeals to high-ranking officials, including the head of the Investigative Committee and President Putin.
The governor of Kuban and the mayor of Krasnodar have supported the construction of the church in YMR. The mayor also mentioned plans for a park in the area. Despite this, residents launched a flash mob of photos with the hashtag #Iamnotabarren to show their support for the green zone. Another solo picket was held near the Krasnodar administration on October 2.
The dispute over the construction of the church in the Jubilee Microdistrict continues, with residents voicing their concerns through various protests and petitions. The Krasnodar City Administration has organized public consultations, but the final decision remains to be seen.
