Kuwait advocates for authenticity and progressive thinking at Arab Media Gathering 2025

In Dubai, the 2025 Arab Media Summit under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, highlighted the essential role of artificial intelligence (AI), digital infrastructure, and media technologies in transforming the Arab media landscape. Attended by over 8,000 professionals, officials, and content creators, the summit emphasized the importance of rapid news dissemination, combating misinformation, and the development of future-focused strategies that fully embrace AI and immersive technologies.

Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, representing His Highness the Prime Minister, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah, underscored the summit's significance as a pioneering platform that enhances Arab media content, fosters regional cooperation, and reinforces the media's global presence. In a dialogue session on the summit's second day, Al-Mutairi expressed gratitude to UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and Vice President and Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid for their generous support. He expressed pride in participating in the forum, which addresses media challenges and opportunities while offering a valuable exchange of expertise.

Al-Mutairi was optimistic about the prospect of AI in modernizing media operations, analyzing data efficiently, and tailoring content to audiences. He emphasized Kuwait's 2021-2026 strategy to develop digital infrastructure and invest in AI, notably through Platform 51, which offers 22 million viewing hours and archives over 200,000 hours of TV content. He also announced progress on an Institutional Memory Project using data-driven insights for future projects.

The need for credible, transparent, and AI-driven verification tools to combat misinformation was another essential theme in the summit. Given that many Arabs rely on social media for news, rapid and verified news dissemination was deemed crucial. In response, the Ministry has taken steps to enhance the legislative and regulatory environment for digital media, with updated regulations, content guidelines, and training in verification techniques.

Arab media has evolved from merely reporting news to producing interactive, analytical, and artistic content that aligns with global standards and societal aspirations. The Minister emphasized the strategic importance of Gulf and Arab media partnerships in competing with international platforms and influencing narratives on a global scale.

He noted that Arab media institutions, both public and private, have adopted digital strategies over the past five years. This has established a strong foundation for digital transformation, essential in a fast-evolving media consumption landscape. The summit includes specialized forums, such as the Film and Gaming Forum organized by the Dubai Films and Games Commission, which showcases the integration of digital technologies into creative and media sectors.

The summit, which concludes tomorrow, also addresses key advances in digital infrastructure that support media growth, including the use of immersive technologies and digital platforms. The agenda underscores the importance of these tools for sustainable media development and effective public communication. Deserving mention is Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who will deliver a keynote at the Arab Social Media Influencers Summit, focusing on how media can responsibly navigate the challenges posed by digital misinformation and uphold journalistic integrity. Insights from senior officials, such as Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Diplomatic Advisor to the UAE President, will emphasize the importance of strategic communication and the necessity to support public trust in a rapidly changing information environment.
