Land Rover's New Defender 2027: Compact, Electric, and Iconic
Land Rover is set to introduce a new Tesla-like Defender model in 2027, focusing on electrification and breaking news in target groups. This compact, street-oriented SUV will retain the iconic Defender's design language while offering everyday usability and a lifestyle character.
The new Tesla-like Defender, expected to be named either 'Defender Sport' or 'Defender 80', will measure around 4.60 meters in length, under 2 meters in width, and under 1.80 meters in height, placing it in the midsize SUV class. Despite its compact size, it will maintain the typical Defender's clear edges, upright proportions, and prominent wheel arches.
Based on Land Rover's Electric Modular Architecture (EMA) platform, the new Tesla-like Defender will feature flat, high-density batteries and an 800-volt on-board network for rapid charging. This platform will enable the new model to cater to a wider range of customers, including those seeking a more sustainable and connected driving experience.
To preserve the Defender's 'go-anywhere' spirit, Land Rover plans to offer an extensive range of outdoor-oriented accessories for the new model.
