"Leading in Depreciation: Top Electrical Vehicles Retaining the Most Value in 2025"
In an exciting announcement, Autobild and Schwacke have unveiled the winners of their prestigious Wertmeister awards. These accolades are given to vehicles with the lowest predicted depreciation after three years and 60,000 kilometres, highlighting the models that hold their value best.
The analysis for this year's awards was based on tens of thousands of model variants in eleven classes, providing a comprehensive overview of the market.
Thorsten Barg, CEO of Schwacke, stated that models and brands offering affordable vehicles or those highly positioned in the premium/lifestyle range are the winners. This trend is evident in the results, with several well-known brands taking home multiple awards.
In the compact class, the Audi A3 Sportback emerged victorious with a residual value of 53.7%. The Mini Aceman, a new entrant in the electric compact car category, boasted the highest predicted residual value of 54.9%.
Among compact SUVs, the Dacia Duster took the title, with a residual value of 60.6%. In the midsize class, the Mercedes CLE triumphed, replacing previous C- and E-class variants, with a predicted residual value of 55.0%.
The Audi A6 Avant e-tron led two categories: compact to luxury electric (57.1%) and luxury (51.7%). The Volvo EX90, another electric vehicle, claimed the top spot in the compact to luxury electric SUV category with a predicted residual value of 55.5%.
In the realm of electric vehicles, significant improvements in terms of range, charging speeds, and everyday usability have been observed. This shift towards electric vehicles is reflected in the awards, with several electric models taking home top honours.
The midsize to luxury SUV category was dominated by the Mercedes G-Klasse with a residual value of 67.6%. Among classic compact cars, the Mini Cooper secured the title, with the Mini convertible standing out for its high residual value of 59.1%.
The winner among vans was the Citroën Berlingo, achieving a residual value of 62.4%. In the sports car category, the Porsche 911 Carrera remained unchallenged, with the manual transmission variant achieving the highest value of 63.0% in its class.
A trend observed by Barg is that small cars are disappearing from the market due to the high cost of adapting to emission regulations. As a result, small and compact cars have been combined into one category this year.
The manufacturers recognised as the most value-retentive ("Wertmeister") in the different 2025 vehicle categories are: Mini (Mini Aceman in electric small car, Mini Cooper Cabrio in small car), Audi (A6 Avant e-tron in compact to upper class electric and upper class, A3 Sportback in compact class), Volvo (EX90 in compact to upper class electric SUV), Mercedes-Benz (CLE in mid-size, G-Class in mid to upper class SUV), Dacia (Duster in compact SUV), Porsche (911 Carrera T in sports car), and Citroën (Berlingo in vans).
These Wertmeister awards provide valuable insights into the current state of the automotive market, highlighting the vehicles that offer the best value for money. Whether you're in the market for a compact car, SUV, electric vehicle, van, or sports car, these awards can help guide your decision-making process.
