Lenovo's latest P14s workstation shows potential as a formidable rival to Apple's MacBook series.

Updated Article:

Buckle up, tech enthusiasts! Lenovo's just given a significant refresh to its iconic ThinkPad lineup, introducing fresh additions to the P and L series workstation and business laptops.

In this exciting update, the undeniable star is the ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 - a robust, portable powerhouse fueled by cutting-edge AMD Pro processors. As a sleek, lightweight mobile workstation, the P14s Gen 6 could challenge the formidable title held by the MacBook Pro 14 (M4, 2024) and the HP ZBook Ultra 14.

Lenovo's also giving the P16s Gen 4 a well-deserved upgrade with AMD's latest Pro processors, and the L-series ThinkPads will be revamped with AMD and Intel SKUs in 13, 14, and 16-inch versions.

Among the updated ThinkPads, the P14s seems primed to make a splash, potentially earning a spot on our coveted list of Best workstation laptops or the Best Lenovo ThinkPads.

ThinkPad P14s Gen 6

The sixth-generation ThinkPad P14s boasts processor options up to the Ryzen AI 9 HX PRO 370, visuals up to the AMD Radeon 890M, and impressive memory capacity of up to 96GB DDR5, storage space of up to 2TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD, and a 14-inch display. Display options include a 1920 x 1200 IPS or a striking 2880 x 1800 OLED monitor.

Although Lenovo equips the P14s with integrated graphics solely, AMD's latest integrated graphics have impressed us in our preliminary testing of the Ryzen AI 300 series. Armed with this potent tool, the P14s is more than capable of managing CAD and BIM tasks, making it a solid pick for STEM and architecture students on the go.

The P14s Gen 6 marks Lenovo's thinnest and lightest mobile workstation, weighing just 3.06 pounds and measuring 0.63-inches thick at its thickest point.

Between its AMD Ryzen AI-powered 300 chipset, commendable integrated Radeon graphics, and lightweight yet robust structure, the P14s is unquestionably portable and promises a competitive edge against the Apple MacBook Pro 14 (M4, 2024).

While HP's ZBook Ultra 14 G1a might offer more raw power with the AMD Ryzen AI Max chipset, the P14s Gen 6 promises superior battery life, given its Ryzen AI PRO 300 chip's low power consumption.

The ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 is expected to hit shelves starting May 2025, with a U.S. price tag set to begin at $1,579.

ThinkPad P16s Gen 4

For users seeking more screen real estate, Lenovo's updated the P16s with the latest AMD Ryzen AI PRO processors, up to the Ryzen AI 9 HX Pro 370. The P16s can also accommodate integrated graphics up to the Radeon 890M, DDR5 memory of up to 96GB, and storage space of up to 2TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD. The 16-inch model comes with two display options: a 1920 x 1200 IPS, or a 3840 x 2400 OLED panel.

A larger screen means the P16s Gen 4 is understandably thicker and heavier than the P14s, weighing 3.77 pounds and measuring 0.71-inches thick at its thickest point.

As a mobile workstation with integrated graphics only, the P16s Gen 4 doesn't quite go toe-to-toe with the MacBook Pro 16, but it remains a notable option for architects or STEM researchers who need a fully portable workstation laptop.

The ThinkPad P16s Gen 4 is set to arrive in May 2025, with a U.S. price starting at $1,619.

ThinkPad L Series

Lenovo's also touching up the L series of business laptops, folding the latest AMD and Intel CPUs into the mix. Configuration choices will include Intel Core Ultra 200U series processors and AMD Ryzen AI processors up to the Ryzen 7 PRO. The L series, available in 13, 14, and 16-inch versions, will feature either integrated Intel or AMD graphics.

System memory can be configured with up to 32GB of RAM for the L13 Gen 6 or a whopping 64GB of RAM for the L14 Gen 6 and L16 Gen 2. Storage can be configured to host up to 1TB for the L13, or up to 2TB for the L14 and L16 models.

The new ThinkPad L series offers several panel options, ranging from a 1920 x 1200 IPS touch to a 1920 x 1200 IPS, 500-nit display.

The updated ThinkPad L series is set to drop in June 2025, with U.S. pricing starting at $1,509 for the L13 Gen 6. The L13 2-in-1 Gen 6 is expected to start at $1,669, the L14 Gen 6 at $1,209, and the L16 Gen 6 at $1,219.

Keep your eyes peeled

Owing to the ever-shifting state of U.S. foreign tariff policy, Lenovo's prices may fluctuate. These tariffs can also affect shipping expectations, as changing policy has driven some laptop manufacturers, such as Lenovo, to expedite shipments of laptops to the U.S.

So for now, these release dates and prices reflect Lenovo's best predictions and not a final verdict on either pricing or ship date.

We'll soon be putting these new ThinkPads through their paces in our lab, evaluating their mettle, aiming to land them a coveted spot among our top-tier lists, such as best workstation laptops, best Lenovo ThinkPad laptops, or even best AMD Ryzen laptops.
