**MG4 Electric Hatchback Sets New Standards with Semi-Solid-State Battery**

The automotive industry is abuzz with excitement as the MG4, a new electric hatchback, is set to revolutionize the market with its innovative use of a semi-solid-state battery. Supplied by QingTao Energy, this ground-breaking battery technology offers significant improvements in safety, energy density, lifespan, and compact design.

The MG4's battery contains only 5% liquid electrolyte, a departure from traditional lithium-ion batteries that rely on liquid or gel polymer electrolytes. This hybrid electrolyte system stabilizes the internal structure, enhancing safety and improving performance compared to conventional lithium-ion cells.

The MG4 boasts a CLTC-rated range of 537 kilometres, making it a formidable competitor in the electric vehicle (EV) market. With a larger wheelbase of 2,700 mm, it outstrips its closest competitor, the BYD Dolphin.

The MG4's price is expected to range between 80,000 and 120,000 yuan (approximately 11,000 to 16,400 USD), positioning it as a compelling option for consumers seeking an affordable yet high-performing EV.

In terms of design, the MG4 offers a fresh take with two new exterior paint colours: Donglai Purple, a metallic purple with a pearlescent effect, and Qingbo Green, which utilises imported European pearlescent pigments. The interior features the MG×Oppo cockpit system, seamlessly integrating smartphone functions with the car's interface.

Production of the new MG4 has begun at SAIC's Nanjing facility, and it has already been spotted at dealerships ahead of its official launch in August. The MG4 is poised to make history as the first mass-market electric vehicle globally to feature a semi-solid-state battery.

This innovative battery technology offers several key advantages over traditional lithium-ion batteries. It has a longer lifespan, as solid components degrade less over charge cycles, and it provides 13.8% better range retention in cold conditions at -7°C compared to traditional lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries. The battery has also passed rigorous safety testing, including a 360-degree puncture test.

The MG4's 70 kWh battery pack, coupled with a 120 kW rear-mounted electric motor in a single-motor rear-wheel-drive configuration, promises impressive performance. The MG4 adopts a design inspired by MG's electric roadster, the Cyberster, further setting it apart in the competitive EV market.

In summary, the MG4 represents a significant leap forward in EV technology with its adoption of a semi-solid-state battery. This promising intermediate technology offers enhanced safety, energy density, lifespan, and compact design, positioning the MG4 as a formidable competitor in the EV market.

  • The MG4's innovative semi-solid-state battery, a departure from traditional lithium-ion batteries, offers significant improvements in energy density, lifespan, and compact design, setting new standards in the electric-vehicle lifestyle.
  • In addition to its advanced battery technology, the MG4 boasts a sleek design with cutting-edge gadgets such as the MG×Oppo cockpit system, seamlessly integrating technology into the everyday lifestyle, making it a compelling option for tech-savvy consumers.
