Hyundai to Introduce Genesis Luxury Brand and SUVs in India

Hyundai Motor India has announced plans to expand its presence in the Indian market, with the introduction of the Genesis luxury brand and several new vehicles over the next four years.

The Genesis brand, known for its premium luxury offerings, is expected to make its Indian debut with the Genesis GV80 SUV. This luxury vehicle is set to compete against established players like the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, Audi Q7, and Volvo XC90.

The Genesis GV80 will be available with two powerful engine options: a 2.5-litre turbo petrol engine producing around 300 bhp and a 3.5-litre turbo petrol engine delivering 375 bhp. Both engines will be paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Initially, the Genesis GV80 will be imported as Completely Built Units (CBUs). However, based on demand and market response, local assembly might be considered later. The launch is anticipated to happen around early 2026, although an exact date has not been confirmed yet.

In addition to the GV80, Hyundai is also planning to introduce the GV70 SUV and GV60 electric SUV in India. The GV70 and GV60 EV are expected to compete with other luxury SUVs in the Indian market.

Hyundai is focusing on offering superior warranty, after-sales service, and better value for money to challenge established European luxury marques. Prices for Genesis models in India are expected to start from approximately ₹60 lakhs, positioning the brand firmly in the luxury segment.

The Genesis models will also boast advanced technology features such as Level 2+ ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), premium Lexicon audio system, connected car capabilities with over-the-air updates, and an overall tech-focused, plush interior experience.

Besides the Genesis models, Hyundai is also planning to introduce 20 Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles and 6 Electric Vehicles (EVs) in the Indian market over the next four years. The Hyundai Kona Electric 2024, Hyundai Exter, Hyundai Creta, Hyundai Stargazer, BYD Atto 3, and Mahindra XEV 9e are other cars currently available or upcoming in the Indian market.

Hyundai's Talegaon facility in Maharashtra is set to begin vehicle production in Q3 FY2026, and the Genesis cars are expected to be among the first models produced there. The company has already trademarked designs for Genesis GV80 and GV80 Coupe in India, signaling preparation for launch.

In summary, Hyundai Motor India is strategically evaluating and preparing to bring the Genesis GV80 luxury SUV and potentially other Genesis models to the Indian market starting possibly in early 2026, initially through imports with localized production potentially coming later based on market traction. This move is part of Hyundai's plan to bring 26 new offerings, including both ICE and EV models, to India by FY2030.

The introduction of the Genesis luxury brand in India signifies a shift in Hyundai's lifestyle, aiming to compete with established premium brands in the market. Pairing this transition, technology advancements like Level 2+ ADAS, connected car capabilities, and premium audio systems will be integrated into the Genesis models.
