The Chinese automaker BYD, known for its electric vehicles, is set to launch its ultra-luxury sub-brand, Yangwang, in Europe. One of the most anticipated models from this high-end lineup is the Yangwang U8L, a six-seat SUV that offers enhanced luxury, larger dimensions, advanced driving assistance, and greater horsepower compared to the standard U8.

The U8L, unveiled during the Shanghai auto show in April, is a longer and more luxurious variant of the U8 off-road SUV. Compared to its counterpart, the U8L is 372 mm longer overall and has a 200 mm longer wheelbase, measuring 5400 mm long with a 3250 mm wheelbase.

The U8L features a 24K gold-plated Yangwang brand logo and removes the external spare tire at the rear, providing a more executive look. It also offers a new two-tone color scheme and 23-inch eight-hole forged wheels with wider rims.

In terms of technology, the U8L includes BYD’s advanced driving assistance system called “God’s Eye” A (DiPilot 600) with three lidar sensors, enabling highway and urban Navigation On Autopilot (NOA) and automatic parking assistance.

Powering the U8L is BYD’s e4 technology platform, delivering over 1,000 horsepower. The U8L retains the “star-ringed cockpit” design of the U8, featuring a three-screen setup and interior color options including white-purple and black-brown schemes.

The U8L is priced around 1.3 million yuan (~$180,700) during pre-sales, with interested Chinese customers able to reserve the vehicle for RMB 20,000 and receive a RMB 30,000 optional feature fund. The new model, named the Dingshi Edition, is offered only during pre-sales.

As for sales performance, Yangwang sold a total of 205 vehicles in June, showing a year-on-year decrease of 50.96 percent but a month-on-month increase of 47.48 percent. The exact market launch date for the U8L has not yet been determined as of late July 2025.

With its luxurious design, advanced technology, and powerful performance, the Yangwang U8L is poised to make a significant impact in the luxury SUV market. The official pre-sale launch date is set for July 31, 2025, with BYD hosting a special event at 2:30 PM Beijing time to mark the occasion.
