Man, 63, Falls for Online Scam, Loses Five-Figure Sum

A 63-year-old man from the Kaiserslautern district has fallen victim to an online scam, losing a substantial five-figure sum. The man, who met an unknown woman on the internet, was promised a Tesla held up in customs but ended up transferring several thousand euros to the scammer before reporting the incident to the police.

The press and public relations office of the Police Enforcement District Westpfalz, led by press spokesperson Björn Ephan who also heads the Kripo Pirmasens, has confirmed the incident. The scammer, posing as a woman, initially gained the man's trust and promised him a car held up in customs. However, she began requesting money in varying amounts, which the man reluctantly transferred. It was only when he became suspicious that he decided to file a police report.

The police urge caution when dealing with unsolicited offers or promises online. They remind the public that such scams often target vulnerable individuals and that it's important to be wary of any requests for money, no matter how plausible the story may seem. The investigation into this particular case is ongoing.
