That Developers' Toy: Tornado Cash Arrives to MegaETH Testnet for Privacy Excursions
MegaETH Testnet Welcomes Tornado Cash Relocation After Sanctions Lift
Tinkerer Gunboats has introduced Tornado Cash to the brand-new MegaETH blockchain testing ground, offering users another haven for confidential transactions, as reported by The Block.
The fresh integration stems from the U.S. Department of Treasury's recent action, a removal of Tornado Cash's smart contract addresses from the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions list.
Tornado Cash Vindicated on MegaETH's Testnet
With a snap, Gunboats deployed a modified version named ETHTornado onto MegaETH's public testing server. According to Gunboats, the decision complied with the Treasury Department's decision to clear Tornado Cash addresses from the sanctions list, following a federal appellate court's January ruling that smart contracts weren't subject to property ownership in foreign nations under the existing legal framework.
Yet, Tornado Cash remains a flavorsome topic of debate within crypto enthusiasts. The protocol's past incarnation was sanctioned for its role in launderering pilfered assets, allegedly at the hands of the North Korean's Lazarus group. Despite revoking the smart contracts' sanctions, controversy persists among developers and users, as they ponder the legal and reputational ramifications of its utilization.
Warning Bells Rung Over MegaETH Wallet Dusting
Some concerned community members have voiced alarms regarding the potential dangers of "wallet dusting." It happens when criminals spew out minuscule amounts of crypto to a multitude of wallets, possibly ensnaring the innocent.
Gunboats, however, brushed off those misgivings, suggesting that the swift mechanical process of dusting makes little difference when a wallet eventually winds up being flagged.
MegaETH Hits the Ground Running
The timely expansion coincides with MegaETH's influx in the blockchain space. Created by MegaLabs, this high-performance Layer 2 network marries Ethereum's Rollup architecture, promising real-time transaction capabilities equivalent to Web2 applications.
The developers mentioned the testnet's ability to accommodate around 20k transactions per second, 1.7 gigas/s of computing power, and 10-millisecond block times [1]. It has also unleashed its public testnet and performed a mega airdrop, distributing testnet ETH to over 190k wallets within a mere 15-second window.
The creative team behind MegaETH intends to enrich the testnet further with additional features like parallelization, just-in-time (JIT) compilation, and sophisticated storage systems. Users can indulge in the anonymity buffet by visiting testnet.megaeth.com to interface with applications, hoard test ETH, and delve into MetaMask integration.
