Meta's purported smartwatch, scheduled for a September unveiling.

The tech industry is abuzz with excitement as credible leaks and industry reports suggest that Meta's Project Milan smartwatch is set to make its debut at the Meta Connect conference in September 2025.

According to multiple sources, the Project Milan smartwatch is a camera-focused wearable, boasting dual cameras: a 5MP front camera for video calls and a 12MP rear camera, which could be used when the watch face is detached.

This device is also rumored to integrate artificial intelligence features, including real-time image recognition and smart assistant capabilities that tie into Meta’s broader AI ecosystem and apps like WhatsApp and Instagram.

Meta previously shelved this project in 2022 due to technical challenges, but it appears that the company has revived it with a Chinese manufacturing partner, Huaqin Technology.

The smartwatch is expected to offer cellular connectivity, Wi-Fi, GPS, and basic health tracking, though it may focus more on XR and camera functions than on advanced health features found in competitors. Battery life is projected to be around 18 hours, and the price could be around $349, positioning it below the top-tier smartwatches from Apple and Samsung.

If released, the smartwatch could potentially complement Meta’s other wearables, such as Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and Quest VR headsets. It is also rumored to have additional features beyond cameras, including daily activity tracking, workouts, a photo gallery, heart rate monitoring, calendar, settings, and breathing.

It's important to note that these are still rumors, and there hasn't been any official confirmation from the company. However, with the Meta Connect conference scheduled to take place in September, we may not have to wait long to find out if these reports are accurate.
