Meta, the tech giant behind Facebook, has made significant strides in the realm of smart glasses, announcing the launch of the Meta Ray-Ban Display and the improved Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2).

The Meta Ray-Ban Display, a pioneering pair of meta glasses, boasts a high-resolution colour lens screen and a neural wristband. This innovative device, set to hit the market on September 30th, will be available in black or sand, priced at $799.

The high-res display on the Meta Ray-Ban Display is bright enough to hit 5,000 nits and has 42 pixels per degree, making it clear enough to comfortably read text, view messages, or follow live directions.

In addition to the Meta Ray-Ban Display, Meta has also unveiled the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) with improved battery life, camera capabilities, and AI tools. The Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) glasses start at $379 and are available now in various styles.

One of the standout features of the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) is Conversation Focus, which amplifies speech in noisy areas, and Live AI support for real-time queries and tasks.

Meanwhile, Meta has collaborated with Oakley to launch the Oakley Meta Vanguard, a pair of sport-focused meta stock. The Oakley Meta Vanguard, with an IP67 water and dust resistance rating, nine hours of battery life, and a 122-degree wide-angle camera, will be available from October 21, 2023, priced at $499.

The Oakley Meta Vanguard also supports new video modes like slow-motion, hyperlapse, and time-lapse, and integrates fitness apps like Garmin and Strava.

Meta has also made strides in the virtual reality sector. Horizon TV, Meta's reimagined entertainment hub in Quest, now includes Prime Video, Twitch, YouTube, Disney Plus, ESPN, and Hulu. Dolby Atmos sound is improved with Horizon TV, with Dolby Vision coming later this year.

Moreover, some movies, like M3GAN and The Black Phone, will feature immersive effects that can only be viewed in Quest headsets.

Lastly, the Meta Ray-Ban Display is referred to as the "world's first public neural interface." Hyperscape Capture, a feature that allows for scanning a room and turning it into a digital, photorealistic space, is now in early access.

These announcements mark a significant step forward in Meta's mission to bring augmented reality technology to the mainstream. The company is set to roll out the Conversation Focus feature to older Ray-Ban Meta models, further expanding the reach of its AR technology.
