Mexico revealed an elite electric vehicle charging station

The electric vehicle (EV) landscape in Mexico is set for a significant transformation, thanks to a groundbreaking partnership between XC Power, based in Mexico City, and QiOn, based in Boston. This collaboration has already resulted in the launch of a 1MW EV charging station in Puebla, Mexico, marking a first for such fast-charging technology in the country.

According to AEEP director Ermilo Barrera, as reported by local news portal Portal Movilidad, this initiative involves the installation of 30 chargers and the electrification of six routes, with plans to expand this infrastructure globally. The partnership aims to attract investment and promote electromobility in various cities, including Puebla, Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Mexico City in Mexico, as well as Dubai, Boston, Madrid, Sao Paulo, and other cities worldwide.

The Supercool Mobility Centers, part of this initiative, are designed to work with photovoltaic panels. These centers are not limited to Puebla, as they are also planned for other cities, both in Mexico and abroad. The charging station in Puebla, Mexico, can charge a vehicle in as little as six minutes or as much as 35 minutes, making it one of the highest capacity and fastest charging stations in the world.

AEEP director Ermilo Barrera stated that Puebla has the potential to attract investment and position itself as an electromobility hub. XC Power, in addition to establishing Supercool Mobility Centers in several cities in Mexico, also plans to set up these centers in other cities globally. The total number of charging stations needed throughout the territory, according to the EV charging companies, is 15,400. The number of charging stations planned for this initiative is significantly higher than the current 1MW station in Puebla.

This initiative is part of an overall plan by the public and private sectors to deploy charging infrastructure, with the ultimate goal of expanding electromobility infrastructure globally. The Supercool Mobility Center initiative is expected to attract investment and promote electromobility in various cities, positioning Mexico as a leader in the EV revolution.
