Microsoft Phases Out IE 11, Edge Legacy Support for Microsoft 365
Microsoft has announced changes to its browser support for Microsoft 365 apps and services. Users of Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) and the Microsoft Edge Legacy desktop app should take note of the upcoming changes.
Starting from November 30, 2020, the Microsoft Teams web app will no longer support IE 11. This means users will need to switch to a supported browser to continue using the service. By August 17, 2021, Microsoft 365 apps and services will cease to support IE 11 entirely, with the exception of a few apps that will continue to function until a later date.
For those still using the Microsoft Edge Legacy desktop app, support will end on March 9, 2021, and it will no longer receive new security updates. Microsoft encourages users to switch to the new Microsoft Edge, which is based on Chromium and offers improved performance and security features.
In summary, Microsoft is phasing out support for IE 11 and the Microsoft Edge Legacy desktop app. Users should plan to switch to a supported browser, such as the new Microsoft Edge, to ensure uninterrupted access to Microsoft 365 apps and services.
