A University of Missouri student, aged 19, has confessed to damaging 17 vehicles on campus. The student, currently in Greene County jail, could be released on a $7,500 bond.

The student's confession was made to ChatGPT, with investigators gaining access to the conversation with the suspect's consent. The student asked the AI if he would go to jail, admitting to smashing the cars during a nighttime rampage. Surveillance cameras confirmed the student's presence at the scene. The student was arrested and charged with malicious property damage.

In Germany, police have different procedures. They need a court order to access such conversations. However, they can forcibly unlock a phone using a fingerprint if necessary for an investigation, but this must be ordered by a court and is subject to strict legal safeguards.
