Montra Electric Unveils 55-Ton EV Truck, Pioneers All-Women Battery Swap Plant
Montra Electric, the electric mobility arm of the Murugappa Group, has made waves in the competitive landscape with its innovative battery-swap infrastructure and India's first all-women-monitored automated battery-swap plant. The company recently launched the Rhino 5538 EV 4×2 TT, a 55-ton electric prime mover, at its Manesar facility in Gurugram.
The Rhino 5538 EV is a powerhouse, equipped with a 282 kWh LFP battery that delivers an impressive 380 HP and 2,000 Nm of torque. This electric truck offers a range of nearly 198 km under standard test conditions and features a six-speed AMT transmission.
Montra Electric's battery-swap infrastructure enables swift exchanges in under six minutes, allowing for over 160 swaps per day. This addresses common challenges of charging time and total cost of ownership. The company has also integrated Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) into its eM&HCV assembly line, further streamlining operations.
The truck, priced at ₹1.15 crore (ex-factory), comes with a ten-year/900,000 km AMC contract and a 95 per cent uptime guarantee. The all-women-monitored automated battery-swap plant, inaugurated by Montra Electric, is a pioneering step towards inclusivity and efficiency in the industry.
The launch of the Rhino 5538 EV and the establishment of the all-women-monitored plant position Montra Electric as a leader in India's electric mobility sector. By electrifying long-haul segments, the company is poised to significantly reduce particulate and nitrous-oxide pollution, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
