Gear Up for Superbooth 25: Moog's Mysterious Messenger Synthesizer Sparks Chaos
Moog hints at an upcoming Messenger synthesizer in a bizarre video reminiscent of the TV series Severance.
Prepare yourself, music tech junkies! Superbooth 25, the grand event in Berlin on May 8th, is about to Roll out the red carpet for an avalanche of exciting gear announcements from industry titans.
In the lead-up to this musical extravaganza, Moog has decided to play coy with a mind-bending teaser video, hinting at the unveiling of a brand-new synthesizer: the Messenger.
The video throws us into a bizarre spectacle of forest workers planting microphones deep in the ground, followed by a scene reminiscent of the thrilling series Severance—strange corporate heavyweights painting abstract splotches, with one individual engaging in an otherworldly performance on the upcoming Messenger synth. (Remember the enigmatic Moog Theremini scene from Severance's fourth episode of Season 4?)
"A new mode of communication has come into existence," the video caption reads. "This device carries a universal language, fosters human connection, and gives rise to deeper understanding. It turns thoughts into tangible reality, thriving in a realm where experimentation meets self-expression, where the sights and sounds of nature blend with cosmic ideas."
Although the message is somewhat foggy, the Messenger itself emerges crystal clear from the teaser. We catch a tantalizing glimpse of Moog's latest creation, which seems to don the shape of a compact, 32-key subtractive monosynth sporting two expandable-shape oscillators and a sub-oscillator, as well as FM and oscillator sync capabilities.
Check out the image below, which hints at some intriguing potential features such as a multi-mode filter, an arpeggiator, and a 64-step probabilistic sequencer—in line with the advanced sequencer incorporated into the Moog Muse.
