Moonshot Initiative Gets New Backer in 2025, With Sabi Stepping Up as our Primary Sponsor

Sabi, the headline sponsor of Moonshot by TechCabal, is revolutionizing African trade by building a robust digital infrastructure specifically for commodities exchange, with a strong focus on mineral and agricultural commodities. Originally launched in 2021, Sabi started with a broader multi-category approach including fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), but in recent years it has strategically narrowed its operations to concentrate on its TRACE platform (Technology Rails for African Commodities Exchange).

The impact of Sabi in African trade and commodity exchange is significant and multifaceted. Sabi addresses persistent issues in Africa’s mineral and agricultural supply chains by standardizing operations to meet international standards, improving ethical sourcing and supply chain visibility.

Sabi's platform connects a wide range of stakeholders—merchants, importers, exporters, distributors, and manufacturers—facilitating smoother transactions and enabling small merchants and producers, including smallholder farmers and miners, to access global markets. Operating in Nigeria, Kenya, Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Africa, and expanding internationally (including the US and Saudi Arabia), Sabi supports over 250,000 users and facilitates the export of more than 20,000 tons of minerals monthly.

By improving market access for Africa’s informal sector and promoting ethical, traceable commodity exports, Sabi enhances economic opportunities for underrepresented players in African trade and contributes to sustainable growth. In 2025, Sabi restructured, cutting about 20% of its workforce, to fully pivot and double down on its commodity trade and traceability business, reflecting a commitment to becoming Africa’s leading commodity traceability infrastructure provider and aligning with global trends toward ESG compliance and supply chain digitization.

Sabi's upcoming partnership with Moonshot, a flagship event by TechCabal, is a testament to its commitment to the African technology and commerce sectors. The Moonshot event will take place on October 15th and 16th, 2025, at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos, Nigeria. Tickets for the event are available for purchase.

Founded by Anu Adasolum and Ademola Adesina, Sabi's asset-light, infrastructure-first model supports users ranging from smallholder farmers and miners to international manufacturers. Sabi's technology connects merchants, importers, exporters, distributors, and manufacturers to essential services, enabling reliable sourcing at scale, designed for Africa's realities but built to meet global standards.

Sabi is transforming the way the world sources African commodities, driving transparency, traceability, and market efficiency, which has a powerful impact on the continent’s trade ecosystem and global commodity sourcing. With over $62 million raised to date, Sabi is well-positioned to continue its mission of building the digital backbone of African trade, connecting the continent to the global market more efficiently than ever before.
