MP Joanna Cotar Launches 'Bitcoin in the Bundestag' Initiative
Independent MP Joanna Cotar, previously with the Alternative for Germany (AfD), has launched 'Bitcoin in the Bundestag'. This initiative seeks to educate politicians about Bitcoin and explore its potential in Germany. Cotar's draft motion proposes a coexistence of solid fiat currencies and Bitcoin, with Bitcoin acting as a corrective to central banks and governments.
Cotar warns against a digital euro, suspecting restrictions on cash and the introduction of smart contracts. She demands that the German government opposes the introduction of a digital euro and checks the feasibility of recognizing Bitcoin as legal tender.
Cotar's motion aims to improve framework conditions for future-oriented technologies while actively shaping basic rights in the interest of citizens. She envisions operating a full node, including a Lightning node, as a fundamental right. The motion also proposes maintaining the 1-year speculation period for Bitcoin and exploring tax payments in Bitcoin. Additionally, Cotar proposes using Bitcoin mining to help tap renewable energies and stabilize the power grid.
