Music-inspired comedy film "Bill & Ted Face the Music" delivers on its energetic tune with successful keyplot development

In the recently released film "Bill & Ted Face the Music," a significant portion of the visual effects (VFX) work was done using green screen sequences. For the VFX Editor on the project, Richard Sanchez, this presented a challenge that he was able to successfully overcome with the help of Boris FX Continuum and its Primatte Studio chroma key technology.

Sanchez, who runs an assistant editing training program called Master the Workflow, had not previously used Boris FX Continuum much before working on "Bill & Ted Face the Music." However, he was quick to embrace the technology, finding it valuable for the quality of work and the time-savings it provided.

Initially, Sanchez was apprehensive about using Continuum's Primatte Studio since he had never used it before. But he found the controls intuitive and picked up additional features over time. He used tutorials on the Boris FX website to learn how to use Primatte Studio effectively, and he found the Mocha integration particularly time-saving, especially for removing motion-blurred tracking markers.

One of the key benefits of Primatte Studio, according to Sanchez, is its ability to automatically analyze the green or blue screen footage and remove the background with high precision. This facilitates a smooth integration of live-action performances with visual effects and backgrounds, ensuring realistic results and saving time in post-production.

Sanchez was working under a tight deadline and had a large amount of work to complete. He believes that Continuum was essential for completing the green screen work in "Bill & Ted Face the Music" in a timely manner. He found his old methods inadequate for dealing with the green screen shots in the film, and he recommends third-party plugins, particularly Continuum, to assistant editors and up-and-coming VFX editors.

In fact, Sanchez insists upon using Continuum on future shows due to the quality of work and speed it provides. He found Continuum's Primatte Studio to be valuable for the quality of work and time-savings it provided, and he plans to use it as his go-to tool for the foreseeable future.

With Boris FX Continuum and Primatte Studio, Sanchez was able to seamlessly composite the actors into digitally created environments, creating a visually stunning and immersive film experience for audiences. The technology detects the correct color spectrum automatically for different color spaces and backgrounds, allowing filmmakers to separate actors or objects from green screen backgrounds effectively, even with complex edges or lighting variations. This makes it an invaluable tool for VFX editors working on green screen projects, like "Bill & Ted Face the Music."
