Netflix Suffers Major Leak, Investigation Ensues

In a significant turn of events, Netflix has found itself at the centre of a major leak, with full episodes of popular shows like Arcane, Terminator Zero, and Ranma 1/2 being released prematurely in August.

A post-production partner, Lyuno, a California-based localization firm whose clients include Amazon Studios, BBC, Disney, DreamWorks, and HBO, was compromised, according to a statement from Netflix. The affected company is actively investigating the security breach to mitigate potential risks and identify the responsible parties.

The leaked content featured burnt-in timestamps, watermarks, and unfinished animation renderings for Arcane’s first and second act. Other Netflix series included in the leaks were animated films and TV shows like Plankton: The Movie, Spellbound, and Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld. The leaked shows were initially found on fringe websites like 4chan before spreading to other platforms like X/Twitter and TikTok.

Netflix has issued a subpoena to Discord, demanding the social platform disclose information that could reveal the identity of a user implicated in the leak. The subpoena from Netflix to Discord earmarked an unreleased, copyrighted image from Squid Game season two, uploaded by user @jacejohns4n. However, there is no publicly verified information about the identity of the person behind the Discord account or their involvement in leaking unreleased Netflix content.

A lawyer representing Discord stated that Discord is committed to fulfilling its obligations under the law, but acting as a copyright assertion partner is not one of them (regarding the Nexon case). Discord is also juggling a subpoena from Nexon accusing the platform of refusing to comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

As for the streamer's actions against the leaker and other parties, the high-profile nature of the leaked shows suggests that the consequences will likely be significant. A Netflix spokesperson did not elaborate on the specific punishments for the parties involved in the leak.

Meanwhile, details about the future of Doctor Who, the DC Universe on film and TV, and upcoming releases for Marvel, Star Wars, and Star Trek are available. Stay tuned for more updates on these exciting developments in the world of entertainment.
