New initiative from TAG: Combatting piracy through a fresh anti-piracy program

In a significant move to combat online piracy, the Trustworthy Accountability Group (TAG) has announced the launch of Project Brand Integrity 2.0 (PBI 2.0). This expansion of TAG's anti-piracy initiative aims to protect brands while preventing ad dollars from reaching illegitimate sites.

Mike Zaneis, CEO of TAG, explained that PBI 2.0 is designed to automate, expand, and accelerate the process of blocking the funding to pirate sites in advance. The new initiative utilizes a comprehensive pre-bid exclusion list, which cuts off funding from pirate websites through partnerships with ad tech intermediaries.

The pre-bid exclusion list is being built and maintained through TAG's AdSec Threat Exchange, an industry forum for sharing threat intelligence. Real-time intelligence on new pirate domains is sourced from TAG's Ad Sec Threat Exchange and TAG member companies, ensuring the list stays current and effective.

Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, and other companies may be involved in TAG's ad tech collaboration. TAG will require companies to implement a piracy-related block list like the one crowdsourced through the AdSec Threat Exchange to receive the BSC Seal, TAG's Brand Safety Certified Programme.

The Pirate Mobile App List, a long-standing threat intelligence tool provided by TAG, will also be incorporated into the BSC Programme. TAG plans to update BSC standards to necessitate the implementation of a piracy-related block list for awarding the BSC Seal.

PBI 2.0 aims to defund criminals who profit from stolen content and protect advertisers from unintentional exposure to unsafe websites. By leveraging TAG's collective defense model, PBI 2.0 creates, manages, and disseminates an exclusion list of offending piracy-related domains.

TAG will collaborate with ad tech companies in the AdSec Threat Exchange to prevent the monetization of piracy sites on the exclusion list. This collaboration utilizes new partnerships with ad tech intermediaries to cut off funding from pirate websites, ensuring that ad dollars are directed towards legitimate and safe online destinations.

In summary, TAG's PBI 2.0 is a significant step forward in the fight against online piracy. By automating the process of blocking funding to pirate sites and collaborating with ad tech companies, TAG is making strides in protecting brands and ensuring the safety of the digital advertising ecosystem.
