In a recent report by the Commercial Times in Taiwan, it has been revealed that Apple's upcoming iPhone 18 series is set to make a splash with the introduction of the C2 modem, promising faster mobile data transfer rates.

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Fold, the top models in the series, are expected to benefit from this new modem, which is developed and manufactured in-house by Apple. This upgrade will enable higher bandwidth for mobile data transmission, setting these models apart from their predecessors that did not previously support the ultra-fast mobile standard mmWave 5G.

While the report does not specify the exact speed of the mobile data standard that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Fold will support, it is clear that the C2 modem will support the fastest data standard in mobile networks.

The iPhone 18 Pro will also feature Face ID facial recognition implemented in the display, a departure from the pill-shaped camera cutout it will sport instead of the dynamic island feature. On the other hand, the iPhone Fold will use Touch ID for unlocking the device, with the side button serving as the biometric sensor.

However, the report does not mention whether the iPhone 18 series will have the Face ID feature or the Touch ID feature as the primary unlocking method for all models, nor does it specify any other specific features apart from the C2 modem and the A20 chip.

The A20 chip for the iPhone 18 series will be manufactured by TSMC using the latest 2 nm process, a significant improvement over the previous chip manufacturing process.

The iPhone 18 series is expected to be launched at Apple's keynote in the spring of next year. Whether the two standard models will only feature the C1X chip, as suggested by the report, remains to be seen.

As always, Apple fans worldwide eagerly await the official unveiling of the iPhone 18 series, with the promise of faster mobile data transfer rates set to excite many. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
