Nexus Institute appoints Birkenhäger as its new managing director.
Jacob Birkenhäger: A Renowned Expert in Citizen Participation
Jacob Birkenhäger is currently serving as Co-CEO at nexus, a renowned institute dedicated to designing participative decision-making processes and advising political and administrative actors to enhance civil society infrastructures and services. His role at nexus involves leading work on citizen participation, democracy, sustainability, and regional development through practice-oriented research and facilitation of multi-stakeholder processes[1].
Before joining nexus, Birkenhäger spent nearly a decade at ifok, where he made significant contributions to the development of citizen councils in Germany and the fields of Deliberation, Open Government, and Democracy. During his tenure at ifok, he also worked on the development of European Citizens' Panels at the EU level, earning him international recognition as an expert in citizen participation.
Prior to his role as Co-CEO at nexus, Birkenhäger was the head of the business field Deliberation, Open Government, and Democracy at ifok. At nexus, he continues to apply his expertise in these areas, advancing the institute's mission to foster civil society and promote sustainable development.
Birkenhäger's work at nexus is not his first collaboration with Hans-Liudger and Christiane Dienel, as they are also Co-CEOs at the institute. Together, they lead the institute in its endeavors to create a more democratic and sustainable future.
