Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition's 49th competition is currently underway
Nintendo Switch Online members are invited to participate in Competition #49 of the Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition, now active from June 16, 2025, until June 23, 2025, 1:59 a.m. PT. This exciting event is exclusive to Nintendo Switch Online members who can join the competition online.
The competition features five speedrunning challenges from both the World Championships and Survival modes, including Super Leaf in the Wind (Super Mario Bros. 3), Death Mountain Duel (The Legend of Zelda), One on 1-1 (Super Mario Bros), Every Last Eggplant (Ice Climber), and Underworld Wonder (Kid Icarus). Players race against the clock in a series of challenges that showcase more than 150 moments from 13 classic NES games.
The competition format is online play against others worldwide, with leaderboards allowing players to see their rankings overall and by birth year. Additionally, players can watch replays of top runs to learn strategies and improve their times.
To participate, players need a Nintendo Switch, a Nintendo Switch Online membership (sold separately; auto-renews unless canceled), a Nintendo Account, and internet access for online features. Additional accessories may be required for multiplayer modes (sold separately).
For those who participated in previous competitions, their rankings and replays are available within the game interface. The competition will end on June 23, 2025, at 1:59 a.m. PT, giving players plenty of time to push their personal bests and showcase their skills.
