Nio Veteran Over 21,000 Vehicles in July, Marking a 2.53% Increase Compared to the Same Period Last Year
The electric vehicle market in China is heating up, with Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) and its sub-brand, Onvo, leading the charge. Onvo recently launched its flagship SUV, the L90, and the first deliveries have begun in 44 cities across China.
The Onvo L90, priced at RMB 265,800 ($36,850), including an 85-kWh battery pack, is expected to have a significant positive impact on Nio Inc's August vehicle deliveries. After a dip in Onvo deliveries in July to 5,976 vehicles, the launch of the L90 is poised to more than double Onvo's deliveries in August to over 10,000 units.
The L90 targets a family-oriented market segment with its three-row, six- or seven-seat configuration, competitive pricing, and the attractive Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) scheme that lowers upfront cost. As Nio expands its lineup with the L90, it strengthens Nio's overall sales momentum amid fierce competition with Li Auto.
Nio delivered 21,017 vehicles in total in July, showing 25.2% year-on-year growth, partly driven by anticipation around the L90 launch. The strong market response and the strategic positioning of the L90 as a larger, affordable three-row SUV are expected to sustain and enhance Nio’s deliveries in August, contributing to its goal of reaching profitability by year-end.
In the first seven months of the year, Nio Inc delivered 135,167 vehicles, with the Nio main brand delivering 87,120 vehicles from January to July. This is the fourth consecutive month that Nio Inc exceeded the 20,000-unit mark in vehicle deliveries.
Meanwhile, Firefly delivered 2,366 vehicles in July, and Onvo delivered 37,838 vehicles from January to July. The busy scenes at Onvo stores suggest that the L90 could significantly boost Nio Inc's August delivery volume.
While no specific information about the expected significant boost in August deliveries driven by the Onvo L90 was provided, the positive momentum is clear. With the L90's launch, Onvo has increased the number of vehicles available for test drives from 600 to 1000 to reduce customer wait times.
In conclusion, the launch of the Onvo L90 is a strategic move for Nio Inc, aiming to strengthen its position in the Chinese electric vehicle market and drive growth in August deliveries. With its competitive pricing, attractive features, and strategic positioning, the L90 has the potential to attract a large number of customers and contribute to Nio’s goal of reaching profitability by year-end.
