Nissan's latest electric vehicle, the Leaf, unveiled as an stylish SUV boasting a remarkable drive range of up to 600 kilometers.
The all-new third-generation Nissan Leaf has been officially unveiled, marking a significant step forward for the popular electric vehicle (EV). This time, the Leaf takes the form of a family-friendly electric SUV, offering improved performance, range, and features.
Nissan's Leaf will be built in both Japan and the UK, with the Oppama plant in Japan and the Sunderland plant in the UK taking charge of production. The Leaf is built on the CMF-EV platform, which allows for a flatter floor, contributing to a more spacious interior.
The new Leaf boasts a 3-in-1 powertrain that is 10% smaller and quieter than its predecessor. The EV comes with two battery options: a 52kWh battery and a larger 75kWh battery. The latter delivers 160kW of power and 355Nm of torque, while the 52kWh battery offers 130kW of power and 345Nm of torque.
The Leaf's charging capabilities have also received an upgrade. It now supports up to 150kW DC fast charging, allowing it to juice the battery from 10% to 80% in approximately 35 minutes.
In terms of range, Nissan claims the larger battery pack supports a range of over 600km in Japan and Europe. The Leaf's Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability allows it to power gadgets via 120V outlets in the cabin and boot.
The Leaf's advanced features include dual 14.3-inch screens and ProPilot driver assist. European models of the Leaf will support Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), while Japanese-spec models will retain Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) for home backup integration.
The rollout schedules and New Zealand pricing for the new Nissan Leaf will be revealed closer to launch. In the meantime, Nissan's Ariya electric SUV remains available in New Zealand. The new Leaf's multi-link rear suspension, improved body rigidity, and tighter turning radius are sure to make it an appealing option for those seeking a practical and efficient family vehicle.
